THE FOUR LAWS OF EFFECTIVE OUTREACH
Law 1: Create An Identity For Outreach
Six Building Blocks of Identity
1. Mission (Who you ARE)
2. Community (Who is AROUND you?)
3. People (What you Do...)
4. Resources (What you Do...)
5. Programs (What You Do...)
6. Image (How OTHERS perceive you)
Law 2: Attract Guests By Communicating Your Identity
4 Principles of Attraction
Principle #1 Strategic Timing
Principle #2 Targeted and Receptive Audience
Principle #3 Compelling Message
Principle #4 Appropriate Communication Method
Law 3: Connect Attenders To Your Church
8 Key Indicators of hospitality
1. Clear Signage
2. Designated parking
3. Trained greeters
4. Direction signs
5. Information center
6. Children's classroom greeters
7. Clean bathrooms
8. Professional bulletin
10 Connection Principles
1. People connect people. Programs don't.
2. Create atmospheres where relationships can happen.
3. Guests won't initiate the assimilation process.
4. Newcomers need six significant relationships to stick.
5. A meal should be a part of every assimilation process.
6. Everybody needs to be involved in the connection process.
7. There are no short cuts to assimilation.
8. Communicate the assimilation process everywhere.
9. Watch for holes and missing links.
10. Use digital photography to learn who your visitors are.
Law 4: Equip Members To Be Inviter's
5 Ways to Equip Members to be Better Inviter's
1. Provide members with business, cards, postcards, brochures, and yard signs to use as invitations.
2. Plan special message series, events and other activities designed for members to invite their un-churched friends to.
3. Begin an evangelism class to help members feel comfortable in sharing their faith.
4. Design an outreach focused web site member's can share with their friends.
5. Constantly communicate your church's brand identity, to support your members in their relational evangelism efforts.
Here is some information I think is beneficial...
1. 10% of first time guests will become members.
2. 25% of guest who attend two services will become members.
3. 45% of guest who attend 3 services will become members.
...So, if you get someone to attend twice the likelihood they will connect doubles. If someone attends 3 times it triples.
4. 45 million people move a year.
5. 4000 churches close every year.
6. 2-5% of people invite someone to church per year.
7. People who leave a church believe they have 1-2 friends.
8. People who stay at a church believe they have 4-6 friends.
9. Always Plan, Pray, Promote
question, could you comment on my blog where you got the reference to some of the stats?
It is good stuff, and I want to share it, but I know I am going to get that question and I don't want to look dumb :-)
